About Us....
The Lovedale Road region of the Hunter
Valley is renowned for producing world class wines. In 1987 we chose our
property because of its potential to continue the tradition of producing
outstanding wines. After three years of soil preparation the first vines
were planted in 1990. We now are starting to see the rewards of such
careful planing and preparation. With some impressive wins recently at the
prestigious Hunter Valley Wine Shows the wines are well on track to
becoming some of the best in the area.
In 2001 we completed the construction of
our new Winery and Cellar Door. Located at 1616 Broke Road, the
buildings are architect designed and feature an observation tower that has
panoramic views of the area. We produced our first vintage from the
Winery in 2001. The facilities within the winery are "state of the
art" allowing us to maintain precise control during the wine making
process.
Michael De Iuliis is the winemaker and is
aiming to produce annually 10,000 dozen bottles of classic Hunter Valley
wine: Semillon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Verdelho and the flagship product
Merlot. It is our aim to produce a distinctive "individual paddock" wine
that can relate any wine precisely to its area of origin.
Our family’s vision is to produce wines of excellent quality which we are
proud to have our name on. We feel that it is essential that our family
tradition of producing wine of outstanding quality be maintained.
Chardonnay, Semillon and Shiraz are grape varieties
traditionally planted within the Hunter Valley. These varietal wines,
from the area, have achieved worldwide recognition for their superb
qualities.
The De Iuliis Chardonnay, Semillon and Shiraz are produced using the
traditional winemaking techniques, to maintain maximum varietal
characteristics. We feel that the most essential characteristics that our
wines possess are that they show an expression of time, place and
individual personality. The De Iuliis wines are continuing the tradition
of these superb Hunter Valley grape varieties.
Merlot and Verdelho plantings in the Hunter Valley, for wine production,
are relatively recent although it is believed Verdelho was cultivated
extensively, locally, around the turn of the century. The grapes were used
mainly for the production of fortified wine. At the time there were six
distilleries along Lovedale Road.
The De Iuliis Verdelho and Merlot are unblended varietal wines produced to
be distinctive enough to be the basis of a future tradition. We see these
two varieties as being distinctive to the De Iuliis label and are produced
with a vision of them being among the best in the nation. |
